Weather Forecasters
Public weather forecasts available from government agencies usually cover large areas (hundreds of miles) where extreme differences can exist between one part of the area to another. Fairweather, LLC's forecasts are issued for specific sites by experienced meteorologists and forecasters who take into consideration the effects of terrain and local conditions. These site specific forecasts offer a greater degree of reliability than general area public forecasts.
Ice Observers
Fairweather can provide experienced ice observers that continuously monitor and plot ice movement in the vicinity of the vessel using ships radar, observations from support vessels and helicopter over-flights. When dangerous ice is detected and forecasted to enter the safety envelope of the vessel, the Master of the vessel is notified and icebreakers attempt to move or breakup the ice flow. The screen shot of the Fairweather tracking software is shown below. Alert level range marks are shown as different colors. The software can automatically monitor the radar and plot ice motion over a specified period.
